The built in gift certificates allow you setup prices as attributes where you can have a drop down for $25, $50, etc. You get the determine levels.
Having pre-selected amounts is much more common than just a text field to enter in the price. However, if you need that functionality the External module from Emporium Plus (http://apps.miva.com/external-product-purchase.html) will allow you to enter in your own price for a product and using Miva's gift certificates you can generate a certificate with that amount.
Yes, we have been using Bill's External Module to sell gift certificates but that makes it a multi step, manual transaction. I don't quite see how it makes more sense to have 15-20 fixed price gift certificate products than a single product with a flexible value so you can buy as much as you want (like pumping gas into your car).
You should be able to make his module automatically generate a GC.
Well, that is good news. We have been using External as an invoicing tool and then setting up the Gift Certificate (we call them "Prepaid Training Vouchers") manually. Nice to know!
That makes 26,245 days in a row that I have learned something new.
Just checking - is the External module from Emporium Plus still the only way to have a user assign the exact amount he wants to purchase in say a text field and have it generate that amount as a Miva GC?
Thanks
The donation module has simular functionality. It allows the customer to type in the price for the product. It can be used in a simular fashion as the External module from Emporium.
