So best case scenario that you like is:

    1) Have live site
    2) Copy live to dev1
    3) Develop on dev1 (MMUI to CSSUI conversion + Ready Theme config/customization)
    4) Save out dev1 framework
    5) Copy live to dev2
    6) Trial run of applying dev1 framework to dev2 - noting process and issues/fixes
    7) Apply saved framework on live site redo all steps from #6
    8) Drink ;-)

Obviously hosting with Miva allows the multiple dev sites which is good. Otherwise client would need to have another Miva license for 1 month to setup the dev2 site.

Don't forget that dev2 may also need the MMUI to CSSUI conversion.

and then drink some more ;)

Correct. Basically redoing the whole thing again and applying the new framework (and seeing what breaks).

      I need a drink now!!

Rick can you clarify for me the external hosting and only 2 installs rule. I have 216Digital telling me they spoke with Miva and there is no limit on the number of dev sites they can create. Is this correct? How does licensing work then? How does licensing work for Miva hosting with more than 2 installs. Again, I am only talking about 1 live site and 2 dev sites.

I just trying to find the correct answer here, mainly regarding licensing.

        Thanks!

It has to do with how many times our License Management system will let a license be installed external to our network. I'm not sure why they think differently (unless they've inadvertently told us about a bug, which then we'll have to fix).
          Thanks,

Ok great. Can you tell me what would happen?

            Live site up and running
They create dev site as a copy of live site - using same license number. This, per your system will work fine (as we have seen in the past)
They create a 2nd Dev site, again as a copy of the live site. Will this simply not allow us to login? Would we have to deactivate the license in the 1st dev site and then be able to login?

I need to be able to get back to them to fully understand.

But to be clear, Miva hosted sites are allowed to have more than 1 dev site, all using the same license number?

They shouldn't be able to even setup that third install, it should choke during setup.
              Thanks,

216 is saying "I spoke with Brennan who is their leader in developer relations, and he said we can have as many dev site installs as we want."

At this point I'm getting tired of not getting solid answers.

If they're currently getting around it, it's a bug and it'll be closed.
                    Thanks,
