Paypal Express PR8 Update 11 Template Changes

I am trying to add Paypal Express as a Payment method (not in-context, just basic) but running into a couple issues. I already have a business Paypal account setup. I originally tried the Paypal Payments Standard module, but kept getting Paypal Errors so switched to the Express Checkout module, but I'm not getting anywhere.

Went through Miva's setup guide, but it leaves some unanswered questions. First of all, though Paypal now shows up as a payment method on my OSEL page, when I click on it, I am just redirected back to the OCST page. Nothing happens. Miva's docs only cover how In-Context Paypal Express works from the BASK page, not how just the non in-context version works. The Miva docs also mention that template changes may be needed, but there is no link to the reference docs: PR8 Update 11 Template Changes. Where can I find these template changes to see if they need to be added? Does Paypal Express work from the OSEL page???

    Thanks!

In your testing, are you entering a real address on OCST? I've seen many stores have their 'messages' item either unassigned or the template code for it removed from the OCST page. If you're getting bounced back then there should be an error message. In context does NOT work on OSEL, you're supposed to get redirected to PayPal to login, follow the steps at PayPal, and then return back to the store on OPAY.

If you're struggling with this, please send an email to [email protected] and we can help you dig into it.

Thanks for the input. Yes I already have a support ticket into Miva started yesterday. I first tried the Paypal Standard payments module, but then when I chose Paypal as my payment method on OSEL, I got an error message from Paypal. I followed all the Miva documentation on implementation. Then I switched to trying the Express Checkout module with just the most basic selection of using an email address to receive payments and not set up in-context. When I select Paypal Express as the payment method on OSEL, that is when I just get redirected back to OCST with no explanation. Yes the error messages item is assigned, but it looks like I only had "local" and not "global" errors messages display. Looking in the token list I notice there is a "g.error_message": No records found: MER-TUI-DTB-00230 – does that help narrow things down?

      Thanks,
      Shannon

I see what part of the issue may be. I have set Paypal to be limited to Connecticut and the United States for testing purposes, since we rarely have sales in that state. If I use Connecticut in both billing and shipping addresses, Paypal connects through the OSEL page. But if either billing or shipping is not Connecticut, then from OSEL I get redirected back to OCST with the global error message No records found: MER-TUI-DTB-00230

I will need to limit Paypal payments to US addresses for sure and some states possibly. That error message is very uninformative to the customer. Is there a way to create some kind of informative error message if an address is restricted through our Paypal payments settings?

        Thanks,
        Shannon

          Shannon,

You can change the error message by going User Interface -> Error Messages. Please keep in mind that the geographic restrictions only work on the payment selections on OSEL and will not hide the PayPal Express button.

Thanks for the follow-up, Jim. I checked under Error Messages, but there is nothing that corresponds to Paypal or the error "No records found", so I can't create a specific error message that way. So if you use Paypal Express button on OSEL or if you use Paypal in-context on BASK, then you cannot restrict the use of Paypal by location?

            Thanks,
            Shannon
