Thoughts on a One-page Checkout from younger shoppers

I had an interesting conversation with a store owner today regarding One-page Checkouts. He and his staff had been comparing their competitor's websites - most had One-page Checkouts. His all range in their mid-20's and all preferred a One-page Checkout. I thought maybe it was a "youth" thing (and maybe it is) but then the store owner too said he likes the sites that have a One-page Checkout.

I seem to recall hearing that maybe somewhere down the line this will become an option in Miva? If so, is it only going to be available in Elements type frameworks moving forward? Will the ability to retrofit this into the older frameworks be offered?

Yes, I think I head that too but how easy will it be to upgrade to it? Should a store be using a certain ReadyTheme or is this going to need a makeover?

For sure everything has to be rebuilt: Page layout, JS for ajax requests etc.

Yeah. But what to do now, when storeowners send Magento's One Page Checkout and don't understand why it's not in Miva?

You can pretend that you have a one-page checkout, showing required pages in the iframe.
Displaying the entire checkout step by step (collapse/uncollapse) with some nice JS animation will make people believe it's a one-page checkout.

I was thinking the other day that it even should be possible to make an amazon-like checkout.
Pain in the butt though... With miva10 on a horizon not even worth trying.

Yeah, but... The store owner wants it before March. My WAG is 10 won't be released until either at MivaCon 2019 or after it.

Man that's an ugly assed checkout page. While the 'yuts' may say they PREFER one page checkout (and I've said this a million times) no one complains if its one page or several provided everything is clear. That being said, on mobile the issue is page load times when in Mobile Data mode on some carriers.

The thing i find funny is the amount of work you have to do on 1-page checkouts to 'Simulate' a page load so folks understand that 'step x' has been completed...instead of just using a page load.

I thought the same...I don't think it would be that hard to do actually...well, not hard if you are already loading jQueryUI which has nice animate features built in.

This brings an even more important question - what ReadyTheme is going to be best to use in preparation for 10? Shadows? From what I'm gathering the ReadyThemes not based on Elements will sort of be falling by the wayside at least for a "little" while until after 10 is released.

A few thoughts (sorry I was out of the country for a week):

                        1. In 9.13 we'll be adding a number of features to enable an Amazon style checkout now without a ton of custom template code.
                        2. V10 has no plans for a OPC nor do I think it was ever on the table.
                        3. You can do a OPC today (they still suck IMHO) but you can do it if you want.

We've built a number of them (we encourage people not to, but if they insist) and if someone needs guidance I can get some more info. I would say this, it's not for the faint of heart if you're not a JS expert.
                        Thanks,
