So a service on top of another service? That's not very effective is it? Although, I do recommend Max Mind with the Wolfpaw module (I've been watching it stop attempts from India dead in its tracks today).

Yes and no. In any case where you are using a third party, you'll want to test its responsiveness and weight the merits of the potential delay. MaxMind is pretty quick, rarely down (and by all means, use defer on these). xVerify is equally fast, though I have no data on how reliable it is. So, in this case, you might be adding .2 to .4 seconds of load time on a SEO non-critical page (i.e., doesn't go against page ranking as it should be blocked from indexing anyway) verses having incorrect shipping or shipping snafu such as being returned or sent to another customer.

But if the customer makes a typo, enters their home zip code instead of their work zip code, or forgets a suite number, then USPS provides a better fallback responses.

Many high rise apartments or office buildings have several zip+4 within the same street address. UPS will accept the street address as valid but USPS will ask for the Suite number before it validates the address.

I also find USPS does a better job at scrubbing the data input. For example UPS can find a PO Box address but not a Box address.
xVerify.com just isn't working for the store owner. Anything other than the US or Canada get rejected. xVerify does not offer any sort of assistance to resolve this issue. So it's back to square one. Suggestions?

It's great for validating addresses prior to shipping, to reduce address correction fees and/or undeliverable packages.

Another option would be the Google API prefilling stuff that some of the ReadyThemes do. I think that usage is free up to a certain point.
Susan - how well does this work for International Addresses? xVerify.com has no easy way by-pass International Orders if needed.
