Restricting Products In Cart

AFAIK only by manually testing the basket within the Item loop and removing offending ones. I guess you could also do this as a pretest (before a restricted product is shown) and disabling the Add to Basket button if they are present.

Is there a way to restrict products in a cart from being added with other products?

For example, there are 5 items that we only want to be able to have added to a cart together, but not with any other items in the store. Is there anyway we can restrict these 5 items from being added to a cart with any other items in the store?
