    Cut To Length Items

Any other stores deal with items that are cut to length? We sell hoses and they can be from 1 foot to 500 feet, and that creates a variety of shipping issues. Was curious how other stores handle adjustments for the complexities involved in cut items. For example, a larger size hose once it gets to a certain length can no longer go into a box and becomes a very large coil that either goes Truck or expensively Ground.. and we are trying to make sure we are getting valid rates back for items.

Just kind of a brainstorm. Maybe you could use weight value to represent a shipping value?

Thought about that, but the problem is the limit for UPS/FedEx is 149lbs which we ship daily. 20 feet may only way 50 lbs but be too big to properly ship, but 10 feet can fit in a box cleanly. I've been working with advanced shipping manager and they have a way to add height dimension to a product, but I'm still struggling to make this work in my brain.

A coil for example could be 24x10x6 and then another 10 feet makes it 32x15x12, and the first one can fit in a box nicely, but the second cannot.

      Maybe I'm overthinking it?

I have a module that can do this kind of complex pricing. It's in use by stores that sell things like cable by the foot, plastic sheeting by the square foot, and custom draperies with various sizes and accessories. Shipping costs may add some complexity, but I have solutions for that on file too. You can email or PM me if you're interested.

I can speak to the value of Kent's module. It is very flexible and once you understand how it works, it can handle some pretty complex calculations.
