    Google Analytics Change

I might be late to the party, but has anyone noticed if Google Analytics has changed how you create a tracking ID? I have several properties under one account for several different Miva stores. Seemed pretty straightforward before. I just went to create another one today and its seems like the "Create Property" interface is different. Instead of getting a tracking ID with a code that starts with UA-XXXX, I'm getting a different number and a data stream?

Now there's something called a Google Analytics 4 property? I'll keep looking around at all the different settings, but if anyone has any insight?

    Thanks,

I've been reading up on Google Analytics 4 (GA4) this morning.

Google Analytics 4 is now the default option when you set up a new Google Analytics (GA) property. The previous iteration, Universal Analytics (UA) , will continue to remain available, but Google recommends site owners set up both property types and run them in parallel. From what I understand, when you create the new property, if you create it as a UA property, the tracking ID will still follow the format of "UA-XXXXXXXX", if you create the property as a GA4 property, the tracking Id no longer has a prefix.

Implementing GA4 alongside an existing UA property appears really straightforward if you're using the recommended gtag.js analytics integration. You just need to add the "Connected Site Tag" of the GA4 property to the UA property. If you're using the previous analytics.js tracking method there will be some changes you'll need to execute to run both GA4 and UA in parallel. (link)

Things may change though, because, well, Google is Google.

Thanks! I didn't think to click on the "advanced options" link during property set up.

Question - did you consider Scot's Scripts Google Analytics 4 v1.009? I'd like to learn more about using it for GA4.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm about to dig in with it in the next few days. I will post my experiences with it.

No problem, I am actually using it now. I have had it on one store for about a month now. It seems to be working with one exception, the conversion source for all conversions is showing "undefined" instead of the actual source, like: Organic, Paid, Direct... This might be due to me leaving the default "Lookback window" setting in GA set to 90 days for conversions. It hasn't been 90 days yet so maybe it isn't attributing sales to a specific channel yet.
