I installed and setup the Google Checkout module, but it's not showing up in my Pay Via drop down. Should it? It's a MM4 store.

Re: Google Checkout Not Showing Up
It should be a link in your Basket Contents screen. Google rules specify it has to be before the customer enters name, address, etc at your site. They only want that info entered once; and that being at the Google site.Bill Weiland - Emporium Plus http://www.emporiumplus.com/store.mvc

Re: Google Checkout Not Showing Up
Ah - very different than I thought it would be. Sigh. Okay, so I have to manually put it in the basket footer, or is the module supposed to do it? What exactly is the point of having a module if it's just going to take them into Google anyway?
Wish there were some instructions with the module. The support link goes to a forum that has as much forum spam as this one!

Re: Google Checkout Not Showing Up
Thanks, Scott. Would have been good of me to look for docs with the download. Sigh.
I understand the process now. Not sure what I think about it - like it or not like it. The big test for me is how long it takes from them processing my clients' credit card until I get the money in my account. If it's quick, I will probably like it, especially with no fees through 2007. If it takes a long time, then forget it.
I noticed they kind of redid the forum, and the spam I was referring to is gone. There were a bunch of posts like, "A great way to start the day" and the like. I noticed the forum was down, as well as the help area, for a while yesterday, so it seems they did a big update and got control of the junk.

For something brand new, they're doing pretty well, I'd say, especially compared to some of Google's previous application launches. They'll end up owning me lock stock and barrel soon. They got my blog now http://doublepluschuck.blogspot.com. From Microsoft owning the world to Google - frying pan to fire??

Re: Google Checkout Not Showing Up
So far I have to say I'm not impressed.
I don't like the fact the customer is taken out of the store so early in the process. Make it very difficult to upsell them. Plus the issues that seem to be coming up with integration with modules that execute on the latter pages of checkout (OSEL/OPAY/INVC etc) and shipping calculation issue.
The documentation is a mess. Its all over the place and there is no clear, easy implementation guide. They've mixed the end user docs with developer API docs that aren't very clear for use with MIVA Merchant.
It would be in Google & MIVA's best interests, for someone to write a comprehensive and easy to follow end user's guide specific to integrating the payment module in one's MIVA Store.
We've had a number of customers opening helpdesk tickets and phone calls about how to integrate it now that they've signed up and downloaded the module.
There has to be a better and easier way to do this.

Re: Google Checkout Not Showing Up
Add to that the fact that they charged my client's credit card 2 days ago and still nothing in my bank account. That's a nice way to make money - hold onto it and earn interest for a while. So, no fees baloney - they're making money just by being sly about it - the normal Google way. Hopefully I'll get my money tomorrow - who knows how long they'll hold on to it for no reason at all.
Congress is going to have to come down and regulate Google and PayPal, etc., who act as banks but say they're not. They're banks. Period. They should be regulated as such.

Re: Google Checkout Not Showing Up
Thats just it Chuck...they ARENT banks. Which is exactly why they are not regulated by the same US Banking laws and not FDIC insured.
Another good reason to open a REAL merchant account with a REAL bank...and use PayPal and Google as alternative funding sources. Neither are a substitution for a Merchant Account.

Re: Google Checkout Not Showing Up
No. It must show up before the customer enters any customer info.
