Is it just us, or are other people seeing time out errors with Google Checkout? The way to tell is to log in to your Google Checkout account and click on Settings - Integration. There is a table of "Integration Issues" on that page. A timeout error creates a "We timed out waiting for your server ..." message.
Google allows only 3 seconds for your MIVA site to receive the ship-to address info, calculate shipping and return a cost; or it defaults to using the shipping cost to your store address - usually a money losing proposition.
I checked out another Google Checkout store and changed my shipping address to Alaska. Since the shipping cost didn't change and in fact was VERY low, I assume their store also timed out.
If you are not timing out, let us know who your Miva host is. If you are timing out, maybe we all need to go to Google and have them extend the 3-second limit.
If you are using a fixed shipping cost model, rather than actually calculating the shipping cost based on zip code, then I suppose the 3-second limit might be fine.
