    Joey,

Did you follow the instructions completely? Sounds like you forgot about the additional files that need to be uploaded.

    You have two options:

    1. remove all old orders and batches that have their payment data captured
using the original PayPal module - payment and shipping modules cannot be
    removed until all related orders are removed from the store first;

    2. if you can't or don't want to remove the old module because you want to
keep old orders/batches in your store (not sure why), you can open the
Modules tree in your store, find the original PayPal module, and make it
inactive by unchecking the box under the module name on the right hand side
and clicking UPDATE. This will keep the module installed, but it will make
it inactive so it won't show up during checkout.
Ohh boy, I just installed that new paypal module from Viking coders and in
the last hour have receive 3 paypal orders and non of which had the order info.
It was only happening once every 10 orders with the old paypal module...ooch!

I am using paypal that supllied with Miva 4.23, but I continue to have the
same problem of paypal orders missing once in a while. I was wondering if the
module by Viking coders could offer somthing different than the pre-packaged
    one.?

It should virtually never happen with the Viking Coders' module. Check the
documentation - you must have not installed it correctly.

There's a problem with the module if you ask me. I have had this problem
forever with the viking module. I have reinstalled it upside down and sideways
and still get orders with no invoices.

I think it needs to be redesigned.
I don't get many paypal orders but all of mine show up this way still today. If
I can't get it to work I am going to drop mine.
I have provide this list in the past with exact details to what I have done and
how I have installed this module and still get the good ol "you must have not
                installed it correctly" line.

                I gave up.

While you are referring to someone elses (other than mine) paypal
module, the symptoms suggest the same problem no matter which paypal
module you use. You either installed it incompletely or you have the
wrong setting at the IPN preference at paypal.com. What did you put at
                  paypal.com for the IPN setting?

                    I understand.
Where in Paypal is this IPN information located? I don't recall seeing that in
                    the module documentation.

I hear what you are saying. Does Paypal get involved in the development of
these 3rd party modules and assist with their creation etc..?
Just curious how that process worked.

Log into your paypal.com account. Click the tab for Profile. Then
click for the IPN preference. What is in the IPN URL? I don't know
where viking includes that information in their instructions but I am
                      sure it is there.

Paypal.com is not involved, other than publishing the interface code
that is needed. That is pretty much how 3rd party software is
developed. The API is published and developers follow the required
steps to get their program to do what is needed to interface with the
parent program. As for my paypal module, I developed it way back with
Miva Merchant 1.x when paypal.com never even knew what Miva Merchant
was. Miva Corp finally came out with their version of a paypal module
with Merchant 4.14. It is not as mature, feature rich and debugged as
thoroughly as one which has been around since the 2nd millennium.

That is probably the problem. Refer to your install doc. Or contact
viking coders. The IPN url for their module is different from the IPN
for my module or even the Miva Corp supplied module.

                            Paypal Module

Thanks Bill. However there is no reference to this on the install docs.
And since others on this list are curious about similar information I would hope
Viking Coders responds to these posts.

If not I will buy yours. Can you provide a link to your paypal module?
And just to confirm your install doc's contain this information?

                            I appreciate your replies.

It is possible that their module is passing the IPN url as a hidden
input. You need to get with them on the requirements.

                              > If not I will buy yours.

No need to. You just need to get the one working that you already have.

                              > Can you provide a link to your paypal module?
                              > And just to confirm your install doc's contain this information?

For the IPN stuff, I put that in the admin screen of the module. I give
store owners two options. They can enter the IPN url at paypal.com or
they can leave it blank and let the module pass the IPN to paypal.com.
The more secure way is to enter the IPN at paypal.com because I also
include a code in that url so that if the code does not match, the order
will not post to Merchant. While there is a code passed with the other
option, it is less secure. Not that it is a big deal, since you are
always supposed to match orders to payments when using off site
processors like paypal, etc. But some people get lazy and hackers like
                              to mess with you.
