    Hostasaurus Rocks!

I have been with Hostasaurus for about a year now. I have been very
impressed too. I switched from Dellhost. What a difference.

    Subject: [mru] Hostasaurus Rocks!

    Hi all,

I've just finished moving my store from my very slow ValueWeb server to
Hostasaurus' server. Jen has been extremely helpful with the migration and
now my storefront page TT load time has gone from 5 seconds (ValueWeb) down
to 0.7 seconds (Hostasaurus)! Unfortunately, ValueWeb seems to be doing
everything they can to make it difficult to sever my hosting ties with them
    - much like some cell phone companies (e.g. CellularOne) who make it near
    impossible to leave.

I highly recommend Hostasaurus to anyone considering moving their store from
one of the "big" hosts for speed increases.

I always laugh when hosts offer to move a site to a less-used server. That's
a temporary fix, at best, until they slam that server full of site, too. And
why weren't you on a non-jammed server in the first place?

To me, it's like when I moved from Sprint to Cingular recently, and when I
cancelled my Sprint service they said, "we can offer you a 5% discount, blah
blah blah, if you stay." I was like, "oh, so as a current customer, I wasn't
worth a discount, but when I want to leave you're going to give me a better
deal? If you'd offered something BEFORE I decided to leave (after 4 years
with them), I might never have looked around in the first place. Thanks but
    no thanks."

I expect 100% customer service as a customer, not just when I threaten to
leave. The dinos do that for all their customers, not just ones who
    complain...

    Chuck

Add me to the list of happy Hostasaurus customers!
I don't think there is a problem they can't solve!
('cept the problem I'm having with AMEX right now, but knowing David, if I
asked, he'd probably try to fix that too! <grin>)

One time, I had a customer that had a problem on my site -- David Hubbard
actually contacted my customer directly to see if he could help!! Let's see
another network admin do that! Never!

We've been accused of fixing AuthNet on occasion ;)

Wish I could take credit for it.

However, most of our customers unsubscribe from the list after joining
with us, as they rarely need the groups help when a simple helpdesk
ticket fixes any problem - so they don't sing our praises here.

              Vik,

              [offlist]

Yah that is a good point and typically what we experience too. Our merchants
come over here for a week or two while they build their stores the way they
want them and then they unsubscribe. Of course this is because they are
filling boxes and shipping their products while their bank accounts fatten.
Isn't that what is supposed to happen?

                Re: Re: Hostasaurus Rocks!

I know that was supposed to be offlist but, since it was posted publicly...

As a Hostasaurus customer, I guess I'm just suffering from poor hosting and
an unknowledgeable support staff that's keeping my store from operating
                effectively.

Somehow though, I still manage to consistently increase my sales and have
very little time to participate here but, like any good business person, I
make the time both to give back to the community that's helped me and to
stay informed on all aspects of Merchant.

I wish I could just put blinders on and rely on my host to tell me
everything I need to know but I guess that's not in my nature.

I'm not for a second putting any of the hosts who participate on this list
regularly in the same category as ValueWeb, Earthlink, etc. but most of the
customers of those hosts don't participate here either. That's not because
they don't need to but because they don't know that they'd benefit from it.

Let's just be honest for a second and admit that Hostasaurus probably has
more Merchant hosting customers than the other hosts on this list. I'm also
extremely happy with their service but do either of those facts prove that
                they're the best? No.

I'm certain that Vic, Wil, and Remik all provide fantastic service as well.
You guys just have fewer customers on this list so your praises don't get
sung as often. There's nothing wrong with that. That's just how it is. No
need for excuses. You guys are all doing great so just keep it up. I'd
gladly recommend any of you to a potential customer simply based on what I
know of you from this list.

Yah that is a good point and typically what we experience too. Our merchants
come over here for a week or two while they build their stores the way they
want them and then they unsubscribe. Of course this is because they are
filling boxes and shipping their products while their bank accounts fatten.
Isn't that what is supposed to happen?

Without debating the particulars, something in the logic of your post
escapes me. Just because (in your opinion) the US hasn't been a
manufacturering power house for decades (something that I'd bet a number of
economist would take issue with) doesn't mean that IF a US based business
DOES manufacturer a product, they have to be more "service" orientated than
                      "product" orientated.

                        Jim,

I am sure you will be hearing from that Publisher or at least the Author
real soon. I hope you are wearing something fashionable in a heavy Kevlar.
At a minimum something flame retardant is in order. ;-)

I'm new to online retail, but I've been both a client and a vendor in other
industries for a number of years and I think the important lesson anyone
trying to establish themselves in this arena should take away is this: The
U.S. hasn't been a manufacturing based economy for decades. We are solidly
service-based. As a vendor, all you have have to offer your clients is
service. Those who go the extra mile, do the follow ups, and do it for the
best price will get the repeat customers.

For instance, I purchased the "E-Commerce Made Easy" book. As instructional
books go, it's a little light weight- more or less the Miva help pdfs
printed out, which is convenient, if not overly insightful. However, the
publisher of that book offers extras to registered users as a selling point.
Twice I've tried to register my copy unsuccessfully and twice I've posted
messages on their site informing them of the broken link. I've heard nothing
                        back from them.

This publisher also sells modules at their site. But when it came time for
me to order some modules, where do you suppose my money went?

As long as you are selling something that the customer can get anywhere
else, you'd better be doing everything you can to inspire them to give their
                        money to you.

Interesting you should say that. I contacted the author offlist and never
got a response. C'est la vie.

Yup, they do rock! I moved to them from tierranet a while back and have been very pleased by their knowledge, service, and server speed.

Tierranet had good service and a better admin panel than hostasaurus, providing all sorts of traffic logs for free. However, their servers just kept getting slower and slower. I bugged them until they said that they would put me on one of their underused servers (implying I would see a speed increas) and it was still slow. So moving to hostasaurus really sped up my load times.

I have in the past asked them some really obscure questions about PHP. Now even though they state clearly that they don't normally provide support for PHP scripting, if you do have a question and run it by them, if they know the answer they will generally help.

Much better than hiring a programmer to come in and fix things.
