Well friends, it is time I get a "real" HTML editor instead of Front Page Express.
One of my gripes was that FP Express does not allow me put in the HTML that I want if it thinks this is "incorrect." I understand
that HotMetal has an "HTML validation off" feature---but one reviewer said this is useless because it also turns off the WYSIWYG.
So, he says, if you want no WYSIWYG, you might as well use NotePad. This is a serious problem if you have "referral links" that
contain referral codes that the "validation" considers "incorrect"---so your whole referral credits etc. will be destroyed---and
this is exactly what happens according to that reviewer.
Can anyone recommend an HTML editor that allows WYSIWYG + "HTML validation off" at the same time? I mean, sheesh, I should be able
to write what code I want and "validate" the results for myself via WYSIWYG!
On the positive side for Hotmetal: you can "simultaneously view" the HTML + WYSIWYG. And of course, you CAN at least "turn off
validation" at the end of your editing if from then on you sacrifice the WYSIWYG. (Though which I would rather not sacrifice, if
possible, thank you.)
I am not clear about Front Page 2002, Dreamweaver etc.---but Hotmetal Pro is definately superior to Front Page Express in which (a)
to directly edit HTML, you must choose "HTML view"---which re-starts from the top of the document, and it does not even have a
scroll bar or even search feature to get you back to wherever you want to edit, so you have to use the "down arrow" key and
hunt-and-peck it out (b) no "turn off HTML validation" whatsoever---an absolute dictatorship.
Anyway, PLEASE TELL ME ANYONE IF YOU USE A WYSIWYG EDITOR THAT CAN "TURN OFF VALIDATION" OR EQUIVALENT WHILE NOT ALSO TURNING OFF
THE WYSIWYG.
Also feel free to respond with "my favorite HTML editor" on any basis.
Basic reason I am upgrading: Front Page Express "workable" but refuses to work on large pages.
Basic reasons I am considering Hotmetal: (a) recommended by my ecommerce host http://olm.net , (b) recommended to me by some kind
person in this Miva User group as having Miva Script feature (I am not up to that level right now and hope never to bother with Miva
Script but next year who knows), (c) half the price of Front Page 2002 & Dreamweaver
Page I am trying to edit that is simple but just got "too darn big" for FP Express, so that it crashes now every time:
