HELP... STORE DOWN!!

Hello,

Yea, it looks like your UPS shipping is down. If you have another shipping method, you can get it back up now by disabling it. Otherwise you have to call miva. They are much more helpful over the phone.

Thanks,
Jason

HELP... STORE DOWN!!

Do you have other shipping options set up in your store?

You could disable USPS shipping until the USPS site is working again, as
long as you have another shipping option.

Howard,

Looks like the USPS's shipping calculator is down. I don't think you can
do anything on your end to fix this.

HELP... STORE DOWN!!

The problem is exactly what it says, your store (actually
the machine it is on) is unable to look up the IP address
for postcalc.usps.gov. I'm able to resolve that address
as 56.0.78.21 and have also verified that it is working
right now.

There could be a number of problems. If you're on a dedicated
server, your ISP may have modified their DNS servers' IP
addresses and not told you so now your server cannot resolve
names to addresses. Or, maybe someone changed your server's
DNS server addresses to ones that don't work. If you're on
unix, this is stored in the /etc/resolv.conf file, NT in
the TCP/IP properties. Your ISP's DNS servers may be down
right now as well. If you send me the name servers your
web server is set to use, I can check to see if they're
responding to queries right now.

Either way, on Unix, you *might* be able to get by with
adding an entry to /etc/hosts that says the following,
if your system is configured to consult the hosts file:

56.0.78.21 postcalc.usps.gov

Or on NT, add the same entry in the file
"c:winntsystem32driversetchosts". NO extension on
that file. This is not a good permanent solution though
as if the USPS changes that server's address, your store
will break again, it might get you running for now though.

Oh yeah, here's the answer returned from postcalc.usps.gov
with that URL your store was trying to request. :-) I'd
definitely look at the DNS configuration on your server
as a first step.

There might be an intenet routing issue somewhere then,
that's the only thing that would make sense if geographically
diverse areas are able to get to the site while others
aren't.

In this case though, it's ok that traceroute is timing out,
the USPS has blocked that type of packet from reaching them
or being replied to. A lot of places do that for security.

I went through http://www.traceroute.org and was able
