    Re: A-Plus Host

Add to that list GoDaddy, where they, too, seem to restrict their hosting packages to something like 150 messages in a 24 hour period. Sure, they are cheap (can't beat $3.49/month) but unless it's your personal hobby site and you don't mind not getting email or being able to send it, I wouldn't call it "business class" hosting option. No hosting company should be imposing limits on the number of emails sent or received - period. At worst, if you were a super heavy user sending massive amounts of email on a shared server, they could ask you to move the site to a dedicated server, perhaps, but not put a limit of 10 emails every 5 minutes. What happens if you have more than 10 orders in 5 minutes (disregarding any other email you may be sending)? Is the 11th customer supposed to get an SMTP error message and not get the invoice emailed to them? That's really, really, really... really bad.

      Re: A-Plus Host

if you look at it, most all of the recent aplus problem posts here are from other hosting providers who are obviously trying to sell something.

aplus allows 500 emails per 30 minutes. but, if you are using the smtp server you can only connect to the server 10 times in 5 minutes. so you have to set your mailing program accordingly. or better yet, aplus hosted users should simply use a program for mailing that allows you to send via sendmail to avoid the connection limit. you are still limited to 500 emails per 30 minutes no matter what. but this limitation isnt really a problem, it really doesnt matter if it takes a few hours to complete the mailing...

I'd suggest searching the old MIVA Users List archives for posts about problems.
all posts at that link regarding aplus are over 1.5 years old. perhaps they have improved themselves...

i am not sure if there are restrictions on the dedicated hosting...

and yes, your customers will see miva errors when processing orders if you are over the limit. this is something i am working on having them change.

          Re: A-Plus Host

I'm not here to sell anything.

In fact, I have DONATED hundreds of hours to helping MIVA Merchant users. Not once in this thread have I stated for anyone to use our hosting services.

Do I think we offer better service and support? You bet we do. Do we restrict our users bandwidth, disk space or ability to send or receive mail in any way? No.

If you are happy with what you have, by all means, stay there. But do not construe my factual posts with touting or selling our services.

If you want more recent posts, do your search on MIVA's archive list then, which for those that do not know, ceased when these forums started.

Out of your 41 posts, I cant seem to find one that offers help to any user's question. What I can find, is a large portion of your posts where all you do is complain about MIVA Merchant.

Perhaps you should think twice before you click on the submit button and accuse people of being self promoting.

Vic - i never said you were promoting. but, in many of the posts where people are complaining about aplus are from other hosting providers (not you) who in their posts mention why their service is better. pardon me if i cant take someone seriously who attacks competitors in attempts to solicit customers.

maybe that is because there are a lot of problems, without a lot of good answers. i am one of the few people speak their minds here, but there is nothing wrong with that. my posts arent all bad. in fact, i may be one of the only people who praised miva syncro as worth it's high cost :)

Once again, I have not promoted myself.

Do I suggest they seek alternate hosting? Absolutely, since many of then did not even know that was an option.

Do I say come host with us? Absolutely not.

Many people running MIVA Merchant stumbled upon it because their host happened to offer it. Does that make them a good choice for hosting just because they offer it? Absolutely not. But the customer doesnt know that.

Its hard to take someone seriously who does nothing but complain - and has nothing positive or helpful to say.

I stand behind my posts 100%. All 4,100+ of them.

once again, my posts have absolutely nothing to do with you. why do you keep taking offense to it? i have tried to make it clear that i was not referring to you...

wow that is really nice of you. remind me to buy stuff from you.

there are only around 5 topics in which i have complained. the majority are asking questions or making comments.
