    Re: Comcast email issues...

Hi Leslie: Thanks for the link. Created a new Outlook Express account & am now getting my emails directly from Hostasaurus. Got rid of that Comcast middleman.

Bill, I still plead innocent. Now that I'm not using Comcast. I can see if I really am.

    Leslie, Thanks again, Larry

        Re: Comcast email issues...

What is interesting is that I am using hotmail to do the same thing, ie pulling from the store's email address. I am getting about a dozen spam emails per day when reading my store email address in directly to hotmail (instead of forwarding). I believe hostasaurus is using the same spamassasin that comcast is using, so they are killing them too. I don't know if hostasaurus is killing them or hotmail is. I would think hostasaurus could kill them before they got forwarded or pulled, but maybe that is not possible.

            Re: Comcast email issues...

RE: Set up for Outlook Express: Used the example given by Leslie. Can receive mail but the SMTP address given in the example "mail.mydomain.com" (in my case mail.rvparksupplies.com) produces the following error:

The SMTP server returned an error. Account: 'mail.rvparksupplies.com', Server: 'mail.rvparksupplies.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: 'rblsmtpd: 67.171.134.202 pid 30913: 451 http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=67.171.134.202', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC60

Is that the correct SMTP server?

Got thisa from Patrick at Miva support:
"Try setting the outgoing Port to 587, and let me know how that works out for you. 90% of the time that will fix outgoing email problems."

Glad to report that indeed making that change fixed the SMTP send problem,

Unfortunately due to the way the software works on our side, forwarded emails are not filtered, so it's possible for a spam to come into an account that both forwards and delivers locally, and the local copy disappears as spam while the forward still occurs. Then comcast or whomever also filters it, but holds it against us, so you never see it either way but the server takes a penalty.

                  Bill,

I'm going to delete that post in a second. There is no all out war and I did receive your email. I've been traveling the last two days in meetings and speaking at a conference, so I didn't reply since I didn't have time to talk to David Hubbard to get the latest info (which I'll also do today).

There is no all out war, as from everything I know this is impacting the 1 server that your site is on and not impacting the rest of our clients on all the other servers.

If I learn something else, I'll post that.
                  Thanks,

                    Re: Comcast email issues...

Even my current provider cox I have some issues every once in awhile. Seems whenever they do an update, there spam filter turns on, luckily I can log into my account and make sure nothing gets filtered there by shutting it off. You have probably done that already Bill, yet I thought i would just mention it as i see that happen allot.

IMO there should never be email filtered at your ISP, they are too ridged and to many good emails get nuked. The only filtering I do is via my Thunderbird.

Larry was also having issues again so he is probably on the same server as me. He's been making changes in his emails like I have to minimize issues.

I did turn off spam filtering on my Comcast account. But that does not make a difference with this issue. Apparently Comcast is simply not allowing the emails to even get to the server if they come from a certain IP range. They can't possibly be checking the emails as there is a vary small number (a couple dozen or less) that should be going there from my store and they are all legitimate.

Sorry if these are dumb comments Bill.... Are you looking to see your mail on the internet, or from comp... I ask, and it may be dumb, yet so many dont know there email being filtered at there own comp..... or, they dont realize or know they can access there mail at there web account.... I know you know all of this, perhaps others dont... Allot of what I do is build systems, trouble shoot and repair systems, these are all very common issues people have...

                          Re: Comcast email issues...

Because of the problems we were experiencing with Comcast, I turned off forwarding of my email thru Comcast and am now polling Hostasaurus directly for my emails. But if we have customers with a Comcast email account, they won't be getting their confirmations, quotes, etc while the Hostasaurus server is blocked.

A couple of days ago, the block must have been removed because I got a flood of my Comcast email from our sites.

From what Bill says, apparently the block is back on?

Would be nice to determine why Comcast is blocking that server.

                            Re: Comcast email issues...

Larry - I have NOT gotten a flood of emails so they must be blocking more than one IP range. When I go to my Comcast account there is very little email. I know when I get an order because there is a PayPal receipt in the box (they are not blocking PayPal or they'd catch hell from millions of folks). But no order emails from hostasaurus.

Dan - Of all the email accounts I have, the only one that has a reasonable mobile interface is Infinity (Comcast). It is readable AND does have an attachment capability. Another account I use is earthlink but their mobile interface does not allow attachments. So I have to use their regular webmail and stretch the display to see the words on a cell phone. It is also a bit clunky. I don't know of a clean mobile interface for the hostasaurus email account.

Not bad. It beats Earthlink but not as good as Comcast. I'll wait a few more days before I put my trust in the monolith known as Google.

The phone apps are temporary while on the road. The one that interfaces with my current email folders is Comcast. The emails are pulled directly into folders which have existed for many years. My miva related email folder goes back to 1998. I have other folders going back even further. So I don't want to replace Comcast. I just need to be able to communicate while on the road and not lose the historical record of what transpired. So I am now manually dragging and dropping the emails into the comcast folders from other ISP folders.

Relying on some other system while on the road could mean some of the historical files could be lost and thus affect support. My goal is to get Comcast functioning again. I have modified two modules to use the "reply-to" feature of emails rather than use the customer's address in the "From" section. Apparently, Comcast is concerned about forging with a sender "from" address other than the domain it is originating from. Now if we can just get the emails flowing again, all will be good until they stop them again.
