    Re: Comcast email issues...

We here all use Blackberry phones for business. We have tied android, and the others, yet BB seemed the best for business. Each cell phone we have a blackberry email account with it, and like others we can have forwarded other emails to it also.. Just a thought...

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. The emails started flowing again. Now if I could get someone to send me a mega-millions ticket, I'd split the winnings with you. ;-)

I appreciate the efforts of Comcast to clamp down on spam. http://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2012...naked+security But sometimes those efforts end up impeding legitimate ecommerce. I applaud the actions of hosts like mivamerchant (thanks David and Rick) to aggressively inform the ISPs that their traffic is legitimate.

Two things I did to decrease my spam signature were:
      1) Discontinued forwarding emails which were sent to my domain on to my Comcast email account. A lot of spam emails coming into my long used email address were being forwarded to my Comcast account. Hence, Comcast thought I was spamming.
      2) Discontinued using customer email addresses as the "FROM" address in order and support emails. While it made it easier to click the reply button to send them a reply, it made the emails look like they were forged. The fix appears to be to make the customer address a "reply-to" address rather than a "from" address.

You may want to review your own procedures to minimize the chance that your legitimate emails fall victim to spam blockers. One thing is certain, ISPs will continue to tighten their anti-spam efforts.

          Re: Comcast email issues...

I am having a similiar problem with comcast blocking my emails. I have opened a ticket with comcast and Miva (MIVA #JRN-992-25853), but the issue is still open at this point. Comcast is telling me that they are not blocking my domain, and need the ip for the email server, which I do not have. I have asked Miva to contact Comcast, but they continue to give me questions to ask comcast. I am now starting to get bounced email messages: Sorry, I wasn't able to establish an SMTP connection. (#4.4.1)
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long. Any assistance to help get this resolved would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately you are being affected by the same issue Bill Weiland and Larry were having. They both had accounts set up to forward all their email to a comcast address, which I believe you also had prior to yesterday.

The issue is that when you forward to an @comcast.net email account, this means everything is forwarded, legit or spam. Comcast sees spam coming in and just assumes our server is the source of the spam and blocks it, which in turn blocks email from every customer on the server to any @comcast.net email address, including the forwarding account. This is a technical limitation of Comcast's filter where they don't care what other headers are in the message with regard to where it originated, they just figure the last server to handle the message is the problem, so block.

We have no way to prevent our customers from forwarding email to a comcast.net account unless we prevent our customers from forwarding email to any address, which we can't do, so unfortunately when these issues crop up, all we can do is contact all the customers in question and ask them to please stop forwarding their email to Comcast, or forward it elsewhere like Gmail (who doesn't have the same issue) or have the entity it is being forwarded to retrieve it from the server instead (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. all offer this option).

In your case, since you did turn the forward off, deliveries will likely resume today as it typically takes Comcast no more than 24 hours to remove blocks when the volume of delivery attempts subsides.

Thanks David, I have removed the forward on my account, so I will give it through the weekend and hope that it resolves itself. Bonnie

IMO....Store Emails should be Sent and Received by accounts with that Store Email address. Nothing says "I'm just a hobbyist" like ordering from BigStore.com and getting an email with the address of [email protected]....so don't use redirects.

                    I agree with Bruce.
We now poll Hostasaurus directly from our client machine's email apps (Windows Live Email & Outlook) to get our email. No more problems with Comcast since we started doing this.
