    Image Management......

Ok i have no clue why but the Image Management "Check for updated images" doesn't seem to be working for me i have uploaded a few down sized images and the new images is 500 (w) X 625 (H) yet is still says that it's 972 (w) X 1296 (H)...

If i got to the product and click on the image and then view the large image it is topline-emb-flag_640x800.jpg..... if i got to the image management it shows that the re-sized images have been removed but they are still being used and if i look in the FTP folder they aren't there. It shows that the image has been updated but MIVA's Image Management seems to be ignoring the new size.

the strange part is that some did update the size but others didn't, i dumped my cache in FF my main browser and also tried to "Check for updated images" in Chrome and IE with no a vale it still shows it as being a larger size than it is and uses a down sized larger version of the image........ it's not really cool because not everyone is going to have a screen that will show and image that is that tall since i have the image machine fix the image 100px down and centered also all the extra resizing is killing me with storage space and being that this is a start up and has brought in maybe 10 k in 6 months i can't quite afford more space..

If i'm alone with this issue let me know i'll just burn a few hours replacing the images by hand, now being the only cook in the site kitchen i know i'm not going to get in to this again since i have set a image size standard that i'm adhering to ...

    Hi latendressae76

I am not seeing the issue you are, how are you uploading the new images to the server? Just ftp? And are you deleting the old master images first?

If space is an issue, check the jpeg image quality. Its under “domain settings> upload settings> jpeg image quality” most people don’t need it to be 100% and dropping it to 90 or 80% can drastically reduce the files size of the resized images.

      Re: Image Management......

i'm over writing the images by FTP, there is a button that says "Check for updated images" and it's not doing what is says it does.

i have about 75 images on products that would need to be deleted and reassigned which i can do but i don't want to and shouldn't have to.

this is what is says about the image in the image management
      Image - graphics/00000001/topline-emb-flag.jpg
      Modified - 5-29-2012 01:11:08
      Width - 1296
      Height - 972
      it is really
      Width - 500
      Height - 625
this is how it should look

and this is how it looks

if i right click on the image and view just it, it's using
      graphics/00000001/topline-emb-flag_640x800.jpg a miva made image.......

Of course it dawns on me that i bet Miva only looks at the day and not the time so i'll have to wait till mid night to find out if i'm guessing right

        Re: Image Management......

        Hi latendresse76,

I see it now, and I have entered a bug for this issue. The values displayed for the image dimensions are not getting updated correctly in image management when using the “check for updated images” button.

The new file is getting used and you can see the date modified change to reflect the new file. Also when you use the check for updated images, any image that has been updated has the resized images deleted so that they will be regenerated correctly when the product is next viewed.

The check for updated images is checking for the time as well as date when looking at the files date modified. So if you open and resave the images to update the date modified time it should work even if it has only been a minuet.

        Hope this helps

          Re: Image Management......

well see i think it's only looking at the date because i mistakenly uploaded a replacement that was twice the size 1250(H)X 1000(w) a little after midnight and caught it a little later and re uploaded them four times. The Miva re-sized image 800X600 would be a normal mathematical step down. The original was wider than tall and still shows that in the Image management but the thumb it shows it taller than wide.

I'll still give it a try at the crack of tomorrow and see if that works. I downsized like 150 images and 70 some didn't take but half did that is the oddness

you might want to open a support ticket for this issue, I am not able to reproduce what you’re seeing.

              Thanks

you might try "delete resized" too. That often clears up problems And it means that all the resized images will be regenerated next time the pages are viewed from the front end. You might have to do a shift refresh on your browser to see the new ones, sometimes I have to do that.

I did the delete the re sized and i dumped my entire browsing history when i click the “check for updated images” button it pops up the warning that it can take a while and then a split second later it reloads.

i did start a ticket but when i got the second form to fill out two days later with

                        Re: Image Management......

                        ok so again..

in the Image management it is showing non-updated height and weight when over writing imaged by FTP when that image the opposite in height and width clicking check for updated images isn't updating the dimensions.

the Image management is maintaining the dimensions of the image as being wider than it is tall, the image machine is resizing the image larger thinking that it is making it smaller because it thinks dimensions almost twice as big and three times as large as they really are, but it is maintaining the correct d1metions proportion to the true shape of the image.

Here is what I'm seeing in the image management...
                        http://www.andersonart.com/marcus/Imagemanagement.jpg

                        Here it the actual images

                        500 X625

and it's image machine up sized versions

it's the same on two different computers one having a dual boot so basically three computers and in four different browsers and i had cleared the cache for each multiple times.
i have also cleared the generated images in the image management, as you can see here it generated a new close up image that is more than double in file size and larger than the image that was updated.

                        http://www.andersonart.com/marcus/Generatedimage.jpg

you can also see in the image the the generated images were made about 8 min before the screen shot was made a little bit ago...

also regarding the size. Have you set your image jpeg quality to something other than 100%?
If you upload a compressed image and then it gets resized, but the image quality is 100%, the resultant resized image could very well be larger in filesize than the one you uploaded.
I set mine at 85%, 80% might work too. Below 70% I notice lots of compression artifacts/pixelation.
It's in your domain settings: upload settings
