    Google Checkout Power!

Google checkout seems to have quite a bit of sway with my customers. 5 out of my last 10 orders processed with Google. Anyone else seeing results like this?
    Thank You,

      Re: Google Checkout Power!

I have a couple of questions about Google Checkout.
      1. Does Google checkout integrate with UPS and USPS shipping? I.e.: does shipping information get passed on from MIVA to Google checkout?
      2. If it does, then what USPS options are available?
      3. Any bugs you noticed so far?
      thanks

        Re: Google Checkout Power!

I just set it up and it does pass the handling charge for USPS and weight. The shipping charge listed in google checkout is the same as shown in miva checkout.
Google checkout only makes the first three shipping options available in a drop down box in it's checkout. This is in the same order as shown in Miva checkout. This is a problem, as customers are precluded from selecting a more expensive and or faster or more appropriate shipping method.
Since Google checkout functions outside of the miva checkout process, other functions are lost as well...addendum is one module I have on my miva site to allow the customer to comment or give special instructions.

          Re: Google Checkout Power!

I had heard in the past that google was allowing the customer to edit the order during checkout. If you click to edit the order in google checkout it returns you to the miva basket screen to make changes and then if you click the google checkout button it return you to the google page but has kept you logged in to complete your purchase. I assume there is a timeout feature to this as well.
Another thing I discovered is you can create a coupon in your google account as an incentive for customers to buy using google.
But they can't enter the code during checkout. LOL

And one more thing...since it will not let you buy from yourself...you need to set up a second google account to test the checkout

              Re: Google Checkout Power!

There seems to be quite a bit of limitations:
              1. Only 3 shipping options are available
              2. Addendum responses do not get passed on to the order
              3. MIVA coupon module will not work with Google checkout

              Is there anything else?

                Re: Google Checkout Power!

There is no MIVA corp supplied coupon module. The latest Emporium Plus coupon module DOES work with google checkout in both 4.x and 5.x.

                  Thanks William.

I was hoping you were monitoring this conversation...

I have a few modules from you. Are there any modules that you know of that do not work with Google checkout?

I am still confused about the shipping options. Could someone clarify this?

                    Re: Google Checkout Power!

Most modules which have action or input during the standard checkout will not work as they are bi-passed. The coupon module has been modified to work with google checkout. If you have the coupon module version which was released AFTER the google checkout module you should be able to interface. The coupon module version is 5.013 or newer.

I'm waiting for clarification from Scott about shipping modules. There may be issues. Perhaps he will chime in here.

                      Re: Google Checkout Power!

                      Questions:
-We use SS-POINTS5 from Sebenza. I am assuming this feature won't roll over to Google Checkout. Any thoughts on how to offer this type of savings for our customers still? I saw that WCW was able to write a coupon module that works for Google Checkout -- do you think Sebenza would be able to port this module (and their coupon module that we also use)?
-We use ShipWorks for order management. I assume that after Miva gets the order info back from Google Checkout, it will look like a normal order and ShipWorks wouldn't know the difference? I'll contact Interapptive just to make sure if know one has tested this.
-How does Google handle international orders now? I think that early on they were only open to United States orders and I know they only process for US Sellers.

Google checkout seems like it would drive some sales in (and with no processing charge it seems really nice).

Are you sure it is limited to the first 3 shipping methods? At this time, my understanding is that merchant has to pass shipping methods to google to create the list. Scott is using the store's zip code to querry the shipping modules (the customer's zip is not known at this point) to create the list of methods. In that case, the USPS might not have overnight, express, etc methods for the store's zip code since the from and to would be the same zip code. Hence it would be standard ground delivery or some limited list of methods. Likewise, none of my "zone" modules can be used because the methods in the list would be for the store's zip code, not the customer's.

                          Re: Google Checkout Power!

I had three flat rate "options" in my list and then USPS first class followed by priority mail and then express
I am not using a shipping module but I was able to sort them by adding spaces and dashes to the flat rate names
All 3 flat rate "methods" were $0.00
no shipping, free ship with $25 minimum, and international which required the customer to select & add the international flat rate "product" to the cart
I had to remove the international option to get the USPS to appear in google checkout

Has anyone figured out how to utilize the upsale feature when using Google Checkout? Related Items does not offer the "sales push" I am looking for. Thanks!

In regards to the "zone shipping" or knowing where the order is coming from, could an IP lookup be done to figure at least where the host is located?
