Regarding the store not coming out of maintenance mode. This will only occur if the synch is unsuccessful, meaning there were errors during the synch so it never completes. It will come out of maintenance mode if the synch goes through successfully. I've tested this on my synchro installation. I looked at your clients log files and they do contain errors, this would explain why it didn't come out of maintenance mode.
