Then in all honestly, you do not have a backup. You have a copy of
    Merchant.

You're store and all its data reside in the htsdata/Merchant2 folders.

Contact your host, restore, then download the htsdata folders as well so
you have a copy. Once you can login, put the store in Maint. Mode,
disable the authnet payment module, delete baskets, pack, then try the
    upgrade again.

To be honest the only backup I have is a copy of the Merchant2 folder
    not the htsdata folder.

Sure, you can always restore from backup yourself instead of contacting
your host - IF you made such backup yourself. (a tiny little

If you are running compiled, the module included is fine.
It's best if you can be running v4.21 of Merchant as it has the feature
of including some text for the CVV2 value in the authnet module.

I'm finishing a Miva store for one of my customers and they will be
using Authorize.net for credit card transactions.

Would it be safe to use the Authorize.Net Payment Services v3.1 module
    that comes with Miva?

Or do I need a module for this?

Well, for future reference, all your actual databases (products, categories,
store settings, customers, 3rd party module databases, etc) are all stored
in the htsdata (aka mivadata) directory. Without it you may as well not
even have any backups at all. The only things stored in your Merchant2
"mivascript" directory are the actual Miva Merchant files, 3rd party
modules, and your product images, but that's about it.

    Lost Invoice Screen ??

You might want to check your email fulfillment modules closely, and maybe
disable any other 'end of purchase' modules.

The final invoice screen is displayed only after the 2 emails are
sent. Odds are that it is hanging at the point.

    Site Analysis And Spiders

Get links. That is the best way for search engines to discover your =
    site.
Submit to Google, takes about a minute. Yahoo still uses Google so =
    nothing
to do there. Then hit the 2nd tier search engines - MSN, Ask Jeeves,
Inktomi, Alltheweb, HotBot, etc. Most likely 75% or more of search =
    engine
referrals will be from Google or Google-powered sites. Then wait. If
impatient consider pay for inclusion listings. I got a Spam Mail today
offering to get me listed in, oh let's see, 675,000 search engines and
directories. Now assuming there are in fact that many think of what =
    just 1
referral per day from each would do for you. Reality is 99% of your =
    search
engine traffic will come from the major search engines and directories.

In my more foolish days I paid $29 per url for Inktomi which got me =
    into
HotBot ( IF you hit the Inktomi radio button when searching, otherwise =
    it
doesn't even search the index you are in). The results at HotBot are =
    so off
topic, so irrelevant it is amazing anyone uses it. And not to mention =
    they
absolutely defraud people by not spidering sites as often as promised. =
    They
are crooks, so IMO use any of these paid listings carefully.

So...get links, submit to freebies like Google to get spiders to your =
    site.
Get listed in directories like DMOZ. And continually optimize and add
content to keep the spiders coming. Then wait!

It's also the cheapest website submission service that I have found... In my opion it is

We used them when I was at About.com. I didn't have to pay for it, so I
can't say if it was worth it. My site was already in everything, but they
did get my new articles in quickly. But you should be able to get new
articles/products indexed every month if the spiders can find them. If just
starting out, I would just do things manually.

You're right - it is pretty easy. Susan Petracco sent me an offlist email
with this suggestion. I then used a IFPRICEZERO type of thing to block out
the zero price. It's worked out well.

add customer survey to new accout screen

I suggested to the client that we put the survey on the subscribe (product)
screen and use attributes to collect & store the info. I will also probably
buy product page templates so that I can move the attributes under the
product photo & description on that screen.

I did get one quote for adding the fields to the create new account screen
and wouldn't mind another one or two in case the client insists on doing it
    that way.

    Thanks,
    John Nasta

    Thanks,

Looks to me like it only does yes/no radio buttons, numeric, text box and
text area. That Kinda sucks. Of course I could make the survey a product and
use attributes to collect the info, but he really wants the info on the new
account form, and he wants the info stored in a table somewhere so that in
MS Access we can query the data and come up with demographics and things
like that. I would be interested in quotes if people think this is a custom
job that they can handle. The store is 4.13 MMUI.

    Thanks,

Assuming you are not asking about the layout, just use a radio attribute for
Hers, His and Both with individual costs assigned to each of the attributes.
The actual price can be displayed through expressing the attribute price
(say using an OUI or Template token, then follow the radio attributes with
    two drop downs for size.

add customer survey to new accout screen

Hmm, does it only do text inputs or something? Generally on a survey you
want to limit the number of responses you can get to certain questions. When
I worked at First Union Bank they had a problem because in the past they had
let people type in one letter to specify their gender. I remember that
somebody typed in "G". We assumed it was a girl, but there was some
discussion, and the input type was changed to radio buttons.

    How's ModStop these days?

modStop's customer extra module but it doesn't allow drop-downs.

    unusual product layout suggestions?

Seems simple enough with OpenUI Supermod or category page templates. Put
price as zero and all those options as attributes.

I have a client with an unusual product layout need. He's selling
jewelry. In wedding band sets, he wants each product set up as follows:

    Product A
    Thumb Description
    ( ) Hers
    $price1
    ( ) His
    $price2
    ( ) Both
$price3 which does not equal price1+price2
    Her Ring Size attribute list
    His Ring Size attribute list

Not sure how to handle this. Any thoughts?

    Thanks.
