hmm.. .actually dreamweaver kinda sucked until they bought out Allaire
and it's homesite software..
which of course required Windows... Hail Bill Gates!

fantastic!!! I should get my hands on a test store pretty soon. :-)
can't wait.
I want to mess with customizing the affilaite gui by adding extra mysql
tables for them.
I hope what I think will work will.

Address 2 in MM5?



As for the Address 2 as Miva stated the feature request has been sent to
development. Miva has been taking these requests seriously. I know that a
few of my requests have already been added in Merchant 5. <MvApplause> I
think things are different now since they have the ability to make updates
easily via the new update wizard. So don't be suprised when that Address 2
field miraculously shows up in a future update.

Address 2 in MM5?



Bill, yes the initial topic is a MM5 issue. I was referring to where the
thread went after that.

Should OUI be allowed in MM5, was Miva hard on Darren, who deserves the
credit, blah blah blah IS NOT a Merchant 5 issue. It is a dead issue and it
should stay between Miva and Darren now (or their attorneys).

There will be no OUI in MIVA Merchant 5 and that is the end of the story.
If you don't want to lose your OUI then just don't upgrade to MIVA Merchant
5. All pre-existing Merchant 4 installs will continue to be supported by us
hosts and by Miva.

Now about that new upcoming Address 2 line.......

has address line 2 option. The problem here is when people people fill in
the autoform say like Google, address line2 is an option and its used, how

In working for a software company, we built third party software for
Autodesk (makers of AutoCAD). Autodesk worked with third party developers
on an ongoing basis, and welcomed them - much in the way Miva does. We
patented, trademarked, & registered each product. We had a staff lawyer to
do such a thing.

When we earned the respect from Autodesk as our software sales matured, they
had no choice but to buy us out for 90 million dollars, back in 2001.

I see lots of groveling for power on the list, and remember a few weeks ago
someone suggested patenting your software for protection.

I have heard so many people screaming for such simple features to be
put into Miva Merchant over the years...it amazes me that they did
not listen.

I hope with the release of Merchant 5 and the new staff members that
things change with Miva and they start listening to the store owners/
developers needs. But, the entire release process of Merchant 5 left
a bad taste in my mouth. No disclosure agreements and complete
secrecy make it real hard to plan your online stores future. And
though I think Merchant 5 is a huge improvement, I do not think it
was worth all the silence.

Dear Dan,

I brought the idea of Address Line 2 to Miva way before that...you see
how far that went. Back then Joe Austin had a set idea of how and what he
wanted Miva Merchant to do. If it was not in Joe's 5 year plan it was real
hard to get it considered. I also asked for MySQL back in the Version 2.XX
days....well...hmmm....we know how that turned out as well.

The Template UI was originally going to be in Version 4.XX somewhere
along the line from what I understand. For reasons unknown it was never put
in until the release of Version 5.XX.

I agree this is a small feature to point out, but as I used the
Merchant 5 demo store I could not believe how much Merchant 5
operated like OpenUI and OpenDesigner. I agree with you that Miva
should have done this years ago, but Darren did it first. He put in
the features that we all knew Miva Merchant should have had a long
time ago.

I have come to grips with the fact that OpenUI and OpenDesigner are
gone, but I just feel Darren needs some credit for his work. So I
raise a glass and toast to Darren, OpenUI, OpenDesigner and all of
the OpenUI community.
