Regarding not deleting a variant becuase it can be part of multiple master products,
what about a warning popup with a display list of what products it belongs to in the warning popup (perhaps with links to those master products). so that we'll know what master products a variant is assigned to. Then we could choose to go ahead and delete it or not. There is a good chance that if I permanently discountinued an item, I would want to delete it across all master products. I'd certainly want my database cleaned up and not have that old legacy data clogging things up and slowing things down.

The reason that doesn't delete them is a variant can be part of multiple master products, so deleting from that screen would cause unintended consequences.

A variant is: attribute-code + attribute-code + attribute-code(n) that is only made up of the unique combinations of the attributes associated with a product.

An Inventory Variant as I understand it is: product-code + attribute-code + attribute-code + attribute-code(n) and is a unique combination of codes.

Forgive me, but nowhere have I seen a Variant Template that could be used for other master products. I have manually deleted the Variants and manually deleted the Inventory Variants and I have not witnessed any problems with any deletions, other than when I deleted the wrong one. If you would, please clarify. Thanks.

Well that's because you're referring to the way we auto generate them. Howver for example you build build a kit of t-shirts and pull a variant from an existing shirt to include in that kit.

You don't have to use our auto generated variants you can create your own.

How? I don't understand. I don't have any kits yet, so I may not be seeing the big picture. In my testing if you create your own, then the dynamic display of pricing does not update on the product detail page. At this time I am not tracking inventory. I like the inventory variant feature because I can manage a product code individually and not have to worry about figuring the sum of parts of attributes, and have the price displayed on the product detail page when it changes due to a attribute change.

When you setup the variants did you choose the variant to control the price or the sum of product plus attributes?

You want the variant to control the price. And you have to make sure your variant actually has a price. I forgot that too. My variant had 0.00. I had to give it value before it would show up and change correctly.

Nope, not my issue. Always understood that. All inventory variants have a price and the dynamic display works very well. Problem is I don't know how to manually create an individual inventory variant that will dynamically update pricing. The only way I have been able to get dynamic update to work is to autogenerate with pricing controlled by the variant product.

It has to do with the settings for the default and for each variant you create

Your choices are:
Controlled by Master Product
Specific Values
Sum of Parts


Choose for the variant to control the price by specific values and enter prices right there.

That should work.

If you choose variant to control the price and leave the specific values blank.. then the price won't change.

A variant can be manually created.
Pricing can be set in the admin, and it will dynamically display on the product page.
Inventory can be managed in the admin.

None of these settings will allow an inventory product variant to be manually created. Pricing and inventory cannot be managed in a flat file


Unless I am missing something, and please correct me if I am wrong. It is not possible to manually create an inventory product variant that:
dynamically updates pricing and/or inventory on the product page
AND allows management of pricing and/or inventory with a flat file import.

Using the available options:
Master product
- dynamic price, not applicable
- dynamic inventory, yes
- price management, flat file yes
- inventory management, admin only

Specific values:
Dynamic pricing, yes
Dynamic inventory, yes
Pricing and inventory management, admin only.

Sum of parts
Dynamic price and inventory, yes
Pricing and inventory management, admin only

I have an issue with "Paypal Express Checkout" payment option. In basket screen, when I/buyer try to checkout by Paypal Express Checkout, it takes me/buyer to Paypal account to enter username and password to log in Paypal. After I hit continue button in paypal, it takes me back to Miva's customer information form where screen asks to fill neccessary "Phone" and "address" information. The phone # field is fillable but "address" field does not allow to enter any information (blanked out, can't even put cursor in). Hence I or buyer can not continue with purchase. I receive numerous phone calls from the buyers who stuck at that point.
Through, If they go thru other (Our own) checkout process, after filling-in customer information, continue and select Paypal as a payment option from "Select Payment" method drop down, it works fine.

I did call Paypal, but they said "This is something that Miva Merchant can fix in their system"
Please let me if you have experienced this problem before and how to resolve it.

Login to your admin interface, click on Pages and then edit the OCST page. Click on the Items tab and uncheck the PaypalDisblAdr item and then click update. Let me know if you still have problems after doing this.

Using CSSUI,

problem while viewing the SRCH results screen

I'm trying to get to this global varaible

&mvt:global:search;

from inside the HEAD Tag Content/CSS*.

However that variable doesn't seem to be populated.
It is everywhere else, even the global header and footer.

Since it is a global variable shouldn't I be able to use it within the HEAD Tag Content/CSS* as well?

here is a snippet

&mvt:global:search; refused to be output. The rest of the string I am writing to the screen does fine.

I used toolbelt to view the global vars and &mvt:global:search; does have a value.
I also tested from the template parts of global header/footer, header/footer, page, search results, etc. and it is output from everywhere else. But just not from HEAD Tag Content/CSS.

*note: I really want this in the HEAD Tag Content/CSS because on all the default templates of the cssui, that is the final included 'template' on all the pages. I want my Google analytics code to be right before the /head . Therefore instead of having to edit a zillion screens. I should just be able to insert this once, especially since the HEAD Tag Content/CSS is global to all the pages of store.
